EV Chargers Services in Baton Rouge, Louisiana

ev-car-charger-baton-rouge-big-family-electricIf you are one of those people who are contemplating installing an Electric Vehicle Charger in your home or at another site on your property, congratulations. This only proves that you are among a group of forward-looking people who are looking out for not only the environment but your wallet as well.

The truth is most experts agree that the savings to the economy as well as the environment have only started to be calculated. Fortunately, those who are getting on the EV bandwagon early will probably realize savings early on in the transitioning process, not to mention once they have converted. If you are still in the process of deciding how to go about getting started in the EV ballgame, there are still many decisions to be made.

Just as is the case with so many new technologies, there is a lot still to be determined, and the equipment and information that is currently available will probably be out of date before long. That’s part of the reason it is so smart to take a discerning look at what is available now to help determine how to get started in a manner that will both save you money as well as conversion costs later on. Telling you what is available now is the purpose of this article.

EV Car Charging Equipment

EV chargers, also known as Electric Vehicle Chargers, are those fancy high-tech things you are seeing more of every day when you pass hotels, AE stations, and so many other different places where alternative energy vehicles can be refueled. Besides looking kind of nouveau, there isn’t a lot fancier about them, but it does help to know something about them when you are in the process of either buying an electric vehicle or considering installing a charger in your home or other property.

EV chargers come in two types, a portable plug-in style, and direct wire units. These are also available in three levels. The first is a cord that plugs into a standard 120-volt 20-amp circuit that usually comes with your car. The second type requires a 240-volt on a 40- to 100-amp circuit. This second type will save you about half the charging time of the first. Level three stations, which can charge a car about three times as fast as a level two station, aren’t usually found in homes. Tesla vehicles usually take a level three charge and require about one hour.

Getting Your Car Charged

The smartest EV owners are having recharging stations installed in their homes because the availability of recharging stations has simply not kept up with the demand for them. Making matters even more attractive, EV Chargers services in Baton Rouge, Louisiana are very competitively priced for those who intend to use them on their vehicles or who plan the equipment as an attractive amenity for those who might want to purchase their home in the future.

If an EV unit is installed in a garage, it is usually best to make sure that there is a 120-volt circuit. If what is in the garage is being used by a washer and dryer, it is probably a 240-volt, which is not usually in a garage. In these cases, a 240-volt circuit will need to be added.

Got a Tesla?

If you have a Tesla, or that is what you are leaning towards buying, having a charger installed in your garage will be in your best interest. Suffice it to say that installing these amps is not something that you should attempt on your own unless you are a trained electrician. Even if your Tesla comes with a cord and an adapter, it’s a good idea to make sure you have at least a 220v outlet in your garage where you can plugin.
